The Easter Activity We Keep Every Year (Simple Keepsake Idea for Kids)

The Easter Activity We Keep Every Year (Not Toss Away)

I used to feel like every Easter activity we did ended up in the garbage a few days later…

All that time, effort, and excitement — gone.

And while I love seasonal activities, I didn’t love how much of it felt disposable.

So a few years ago, I started a simple Easter tradition in my dayhome that we actually keep and look back on each year…

๐Ÿฃ Our Easter Tradition: Painting Keepsake Eggs

Each year, we paint plaster eggs.

It’s simple, open-ended, and completely child-led — but the best part?

We keep them.

Year after year, we can look back and see how the children’s creativity has changed and grown.

Some are messy.
Some are detailed.
Some are just… very loved ๐Ÿ˜…

And that’s exactly what makes them special.

๐ŸŒฑ Why I Love This Activity

This isn’t just another Easter craft — it’s meaningful play.

Here’s why it works so well:

• It’s process art — no right or wrong way
• It encourages creativity and independence
• It becomes a keepsake instead of clutter
• It creates a simple, repeatable tradition each year

This is the kind of activity that feels calm, engaging, and purposeful — without needing a complicated setup.

๐Ÿงบ What We Use

I found these plaster eggs at the dollar store, which makes this a super affordable activity.

If you’re looking for something more durable that you can reuse year after year, wooden eggs are another great option:

๐ŸŽจ How to Set It Up (Simple & Low Prep)

You don’t need much for this to work:

• washable paint
• brushes (or just hands!)
• a tray or mat
• time to explore

That’s it.

No templates.
No expectations.
No pressure to make it “look a certain way.”

Just space for creativity.

๐Ÿง  What Children Are Learning Through This

Even though this looks simple, there’s so much happening:

• fine motor skills through painting and holding brushes
• colour mixing and exploration
• creativity and self-expression
• confidence in making their own choices

This is why I always come back to activities like this — they’re simple, but incredibly meaningful.

๐Ÿ’› Not Everything Needs to Be Kept… But Some Things Can Be

Not every activity needs to be saved.

But having a few traditions like this?

It turns play into something you can hold onto.

These eggs become part of your space, your memories, and your story year after year.
